Shadle Library Now Open

Expansion transforms a Spokane library into a dazzling new neighborhood destination

On November 3rd, jubilant residents celebrated the much-anticipated grand opening of the newly expanded Shadle Library in Spokane. The formerly 18,000 square foot building now offers 30,000 square feet of comfortable, welcoming library space (it’s the second-largest library in the city now!). A new double-height atrium creates a spacious, central gathering space and advertises the location of the main entrance. Visitors love the atrium’s grand sweeping curves and natural daylighting.

Spokane Public Library staff and community members can organize more programs and events in the expanded meeting spaces, new demonstration kitchen, and small group study rooms. Kids are enjoying the new children’s area with its “Moose’s Market” play space featuring a carrot-themed slide and other interactive structures. Outside, there is also a discovery garden, perfect for educational programs related to horticulture.

Shadle Library is one of the citywide voter-supported library improvement projects in Spokane. Read more about Group 4’s work on Spokane’s Downtown Library and Hillyard Library.
