A combined recreation, aquatics, and community destination
San Bruno Recreation + Aquatics Center
San Bruno, CA
In 2017, the City of San Bruno commissioned GroupĀ 4 to develop concepts for a combined community recreation and aquatics center. The project was identified by prior community outreach to determine the best application of restitution settlement funds resulting from the 2010 PG&E gas explosion.
The project will replace existing and aged swimming pool and gymnasium/recreation center at their current location in San Bruno City Park. The 40,000 SF facility design carefully blends aquatics and recreation programming while utilizing shared lobby and other spaces. The facility footprint is designed to minimize impact in City Park and preserve outdoor uses and connections while establishing an inviting and exciting new civic landmark.
Phase 1 Conceptual Design included community and stakeholder engagement on design alternatives, cost modeling, and operational and financial analysis. Over 2,000 participants from the community and City leadership identified the preferred programming, design strategies, and materials palette.
In July 2018, San Bruno City Council unanimously authorized GroupĀ 4 to engage Phase 2 work through construction and completion.
